The Project Frog team worked closely with Lincoln Elementary School to create a green, cost effective solution for its 5,000 square foot Child Development Center that was also capable of meeting the school’s tight timeline. Funding was made available through Measure C, a $145 million bond measure passed by voters in November 2008 aimed at upgrading the district’s schools, and Redondo Beach Unified School District’s school board unanimously approved Project Frog’s plan. Consisting of four early childhood classrooms, the permanent facility was constructed in less than six months.

Made from predominately recycled materials, the high performance units boast many more eco-friendly features. Each unit is equipped with energy reducing components such as occupancy and daylight sensors and a cool roof. Additional design elements directly benefiting the health and comfort of the building occupants include a raised plenum access floor system with low volatile organic compound carpet tiles, excellent acoustical properties and an abundance of natural light.

Serving children as young as six months, Project Frog’s solution provides a healthy and friendly learning environment essential for early childhood development. The completion of the Child Development Center at Lincoln Elementary School represents Project Frog’s belief that bright, healthy, playful buildings that were designed around the needs of kids, parents and their teachers are well within reach. And that they can beaffordable, quick-to-deploy, and above all, sustainable.
